Tokomaru School Mana Rail Development What started off as a need to have a catchy name for the many great things we do at Tokomaru, quickly became a sketch on the white board at a staff meeting. The graphic then became the springboard for an overhaul of our local curriculum. We wanted to capture the essence of our kura and build the mana of our learners through the development of our values, leavers’ profile and our very successful Learner Pathway. The name ‘Mana Rail’ was born. ‘Mana’ exemplifies our need to build a sense of belonging and self-efficacy in our students, and ‘Rail’ makes connections to our Learner Pathway, local whenua and the historical significance of our area, having been a railway station up until 1982. We have taken the time to think, talk, listen and explore and haven’t rushed the process. We have come up with an all-inclusive term to encompass all of the teaching initiatives, pedagogies and our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We would love to share our journey with you!
