At Kairanga School, our Senior Teachers have been working with MOE PD Providers in relation to 'Just in Time Mathematics'; which is an approach adopted by the MOE to support the learning of mathematics in classrooms.
Key elements of this, involve concept understanding, explicit teaching, group collaboration/discussion with others and problem solving.
These approaches assist with student engagement but also promote a culture of problem solving and 'shared power' within the class. A key element that we have implemented is using these contexts as a source of formative assessment; which drives our teachers' planning.
NZ Mathematics has some good resources related to this and can be found here: https://nzmaths.co.nz/just-time-maths-resources.
