Mapping Success: The Journey of Math Progression at PNGHS

Here at Palmerston North Girls’ High School we have been reimagining our Junior (Year 9 and 10) Math program to better reflect curriculum level progressions.

Our incoming Year 9 students have been used to progress and achievement being mapped against the NZC curriculum levels. We are using the AsTTLe progressions within levels. Eg. 4B, 4P, 4A when reporting to students and whānau.

This starts with our Year 8 Math entrance test and allows progression tracking right through to Year 11 in a consistent way. We can also monitor expected levels of achievement when gauging readiness for the Numeracy Standard US32406 which is set at around Level 4A to 5B of the curriculum.

Students also monitor progress through curriculum level tracking sheets.
